12:24 am - 12 Weeks
Today marks 12 weeks post-injury (tomorrow is 12 post-surgery). I had asked my physio to help me set a lofty but achievable goal for me starting to run again and he had given me 12 weeks. So this week has been marked by a trepidatious determination to try and make it happen.

Made it happen. Got up to 4.7 for a couple one minute segments after doing a couple pieces at 4.0 earlier in the day.

I'm close to being able to hold an air squat in the bottom without losing my balance.

I box squatted 75-85-95-105-115x5 on Friday. I'm on the road to fixing my knees collapsing in. My body positioning is improving.

I can competently get up on my toes when on two feet. One foot is improving but I still need a wall brace.

I can walk up stairs properly. Down is getting closer.

Lunges are improving. My issue is more in my foot with my arch and extensors than having any issues with my ankle. The stretch in them is unreal particularly with my right leg back. With walking lunges I feel it on the tibia side on push off. I will nail these next week.

Worked on lateral walking and walking backwards this week. My push off is getting better.

Looking to be able to put more force into the ground. Continuing to push the running will help.

Today the dog got excited by Marlies' mom coming to visit. He jumped into my cast. I screamed. He got really scared. I wound up having to console him. Figures.

Then at Marlies' soccer game my crutch slipped and I planted on my foot. Scared the shit out of me. No pain, so I'm praying no damage.

To finish off (because things come in threes) I was sitting on a table and tipped it. Thankfully this was like riding a slide and I landed quite gracefully flat on my ass.

In other news, tomorrow I'm not leaving my bed.

I'm a little bit confused as to how it's Pittsburgh's fault that they're playing back-to-back games. Supposedly Yanni is in town for the rest of the week-end and that's the reason why they're playing Friday/Saturday.

They delayed the start of the series so that it could start last Saturday and be on NBC in the afternoon. From there, they played Monday (again in Washington) and then game three Wednesday in Pittsburgh. From there, why wouldn't game four be tonight? And why wouldn't game five be Sunday, in Washington? I don't see how this is a Penguins/Yanni thing. What's going on in Washington that they couldn't play Sunday, and then Tuesday, and then so on?

Wow, I think it speaks volumes when the Survivor's get to see their loved ones, and "Coach" has his assistant coach come out. Oh man, I can't stop laughing.

In other reality television news, I love The Amazing Race, but I can't help but call a huge FIIIIX on this season. They spend all this time in China before the final three? They have a challenge about speaking mandarin? Could you pave the way to the final three for Victor and Tammy a little bit mroe?

They were selling kettle corn at Costco with proceeds going to the Stollery. That was enough motivation for me to buy some. :) So.Good.

Got the puppies back this morning - I was very happy to see them, as it's pretty lonely in the house without them. They spent the week-end at Marlies' mom's place, as I was out for most of the week-end. I picked them up just after they had come back from the park - they were completely zonked. Both just passed right out (so hopefully they didn't mind only being home for a little bit before I had to go out and Rocket had to go in his crate).

I'm currently at Starbucks and waiting for the truck to be finished. I had to bring it in because the squeaking of the brakes was getting ridiculous. They say it's the rear brakes being dirty, which is interesting because I could have sworn it was coming from the front. Hopefully this fixes it, as I don't want to have to keep bitching at people. Honestly, I'm pretty annoyed that we have to drop $75 on this cleaning given that the brakes were only done in October. Ugh. I'm also annoyed because we never checked the warranty, which turns out to be 100 days on labour (and not the year Marlies thought it was). I'm pretty sure the squeaking started within those 100 days, so if it hadn't been put off constantly we may not have had to pay. Looking through the bill, I also see that Mar put in the cheap brake pads that had a seven day warranty and not the ones with a year. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be a pad issue.

Anyways, back to this week-end. It was pretty fun. I played in a co-ed ice tournament. Our team was the opposite of every other (who had the minimum of four women) and had only four guys (three in our final game). It was pretty hilarious to see guys getting hugely pissed off because they were losing to a bunch of girls. We had a pretty sick team - a couple former Pandas, and then a bunch of really solid tier one girls (including last year's leading scorer). One of our guys played AJHL. It was such a good atmosphere to be in, and really reminded me that hockey is fun and I do love playing. I felt a little bit rusty - my skating was fine, and I actually think my acceleration has improved over the last couple months of workouts. My stickhandling was a little off, which I'll accept given the 2 1/2 months off. We ended up going 3-1 after losing our last game - which I would mostly attribute to the fact that our team was drunk, hungover, or both.

I made the interesting decision to eat wings before playing my ball hockey game last night. Yeah, that was brilliant. They sat there like a brick for the whole game and I was all over the meat burps. Unfortunately we lost to the Tsunami (my former team), so that sucked. Especially given that we scored first (30 seconds in). That part was sweet. I gave Andrea (the other booted Snow Crow) a sweet cross field pass that she buried. Honestly, we had a rough start to the year in that we played the teams that finished 1-2 last year. I think both are beatable if we sort out our issues and actually figure out how to play together. The next few games will be good for us, as I think we can definitely beat up the ones we play Wednesday and Friday.

I'm down to five minutes of internet time and still haven't heard back from Canadian Tire. I wish I hadn't left my other card at home, because I definitely don't want to buy another (as the truck will inevitably be done three seconds after I do that). I guess I'll have to stop messing around and actually do a bit of work. Hopefully it's done soon though...she called me about what needed to be done over an hour ago.

Okay, I am angry.

I do not come into the office frequently. I do not work well in crowds, and I also don't particularly want to see Mel, so I avoid it most of the time.

I am a student in my department. I pay tuition. I am part of the sociocultural room. Regardless of how frequently I am here, I am entitled to certain things based on the fact that I am a paying student. One of these things? A single filing cabinet drawer, just like everyone else. I have had the same filing cabinet drawer since I started at UofA, THREE YEARS AGO.

I come in today, and what do I find? Some douche has decided to rip my name off the filing cabinet, remove my stuff, and use it as their own.

I'll give you three guesses as to who that person is.

I don't know what pisses me off more - how she uses the office like it is solely her own, or the fact that she took my cabinet WHEN THERE WERE OTHER ONES THAT WERE EMPTY.

I've removed her stuff and put mine back in. If I come in next week to find that she's taken it back, I swear to god I am throwing her stuff in the trash.

It's the fucking principle of the thing - why the fuck do you have to take my shit? It's in use; just because you want it and you've decided I don't use it, doesn't mean you just get to take it.

My hockey team is running two playoff pools as a fundraiser for next year. The first is a box draft (you pick one player from each set) and the second is a bracket draft (you pick the winner of each series and the number of games it will take).

Each entry is $10 and the winner takes 50% of the pot (50% goes to the team). You can enter either one pool or both, and you can enter as many times as you want.

The great thing about the NHL playoffs is their unpredictability - someone who thinks they have a ton of hockey knowledge and someone who has none at all, really, have the same type of chances at success.

I would really, really appreciate it if anyone wants to participate. I can send you the forms via email and we can work out payment if you're not in town (ie. most of you).

This is a great chance to help out women's hockey, as well as being a great chance to win a solid prize.

Based on today's trades, the Leafs now have four goaltenders:
* Vesa Toskala (IR)
* Curtis Josesph
* Martin Gerber (waivers from Ottawa)
* Olaf Kolzig (trade from Tampa)

This is on top of Justin Pogge, who I thought they were trying to get some starts for.

What are they doing with all of them, exactly?

Delayed again, this time to 11:58. Crossing my fingers that we'll get off the ground then. 10:55 now. I have a sweet seat on a cushy chair close to an outlet, so I really don't want to give it up until I have to. Or until I really, really have to pee. Hopefully that doesn't happen. I'm in a different flight's gate area...I thought it was the one flight that was on time (to Saskatoon), but apparently not so much. It's funny too, because the website still claims it's on time, even though it was supposed to leave at 10:35.

I'm currently doing a lot of random things that waste time on the internets. I'd look at youtube videos, but they don't seem to load that great on this wonderful wireless I've purchased.

Okay, so is anyone on Rogers Wireless?

Here's how to get FREE TICKETS:

TEXT: TIX to 4849 from your Rogers Wireless phone and follow the link to the Wireless Box Office. Once there, select The Midway State / Thriving Ivory from the list of concerts, select one or two tickets and enter MIDWAY in the PIN code box. Your ticket(s) will be free!

Crowned King is coming back to Edmonton, and apparently tickets are free...if you have Rogers. I'm on Telus.

Is anyone on my FL on Rogers that would be able to do this for me?

I'm watching the Sidney Crosby DVD right now. (It's research, I swear!)

Two things:

1. It's hilarious that they've bleeped out all the swearing. I mean, obviously it's for the kids and all, but you get these huge pauses sometimes. "Guys we gotta get the.......puck out. Just...get it up and out." Etc.

2. I'm trying to figure out who is naked in the shower with his wang fuzzed out. And how he's naked in the shower and Crosby is fully dressed (like, hockey dressed - game jersey and all)

CTV had Rahim Jaffer as elected in Edmonton-Strathcona after about 100 of 223 polls reporting. With 200/223 now reporting, Linda Duncan is ahead by 400 votes and Jaffer is no longer listed as "elected". CBC still has him listed as "elected", but is reporting from fewer polls than CTV.

I'm a little curious how this is going to play out. How do you say someone is elected, and then backtrack on it? Interesting.

Does this mean I can start crossing my fingers for Duncan again?

EDIT: Duncan is ahead by 306 votes with 216/223 polls reporting.

EDIT 2: Duncan is ahead by 429 votes with 220/223 reporting.

I've been forwarded information regarding four different jobs currently being advertised by Hockey Canada.

I feel like this is some kind of sign for me, that at the very least, I should apply.

Accordingly, I need to try and make my resume into something that doesn't get laughed at, utilized as lining for a bird cage, or otherwise not taken seriously.

bridgeoutahead suggested I put it out here that I am looking for some feedback, so I'm hoping there might be someone willing to provide me with some.

I have a cover letter and resume on hand; both of which were written sometime over the last year. Of course, I haven't applied to anything "real" in a while (the last would be when I applied and subsequently got my job working with Residence Life in the summer of my fourth year (ie. 2005) - and even then, I had the benefit of contacts inside RL that helped with me getting that job). My "real world" experience is somewhat sparse, given that I've been in school for the last 7.5 years.

If anyone can help me out (similarly, if you know someone on your FL that might be willing to help me out) please let me know. While the prospect of my friends laughing at my resume is terrifying to me, I'd rather deal with that than have people mock it even further up the chain.

12:21 pm - Goal Achieved!

175x1 (ie. my current body weight). Probably could have gone a bit deeper, but that looks parallel to me (at 0:20 of the video). In fact, I think it's pretty much the exact height of the box that I've been squatting with.

It's a little strange squatting with someone directly behind you, although I was glad to have Brian there as a security blanket. 175 really wasn't that hard to get up in retrospect, but there was the whole 'my hamstrings feel sore today' and 'I just box squatted 130 5x5' and 'wow, that looks like a lot of weight' thing in my head.
